Corporate Social Responsibility
As a modern, progressive law firm we recognise our responsibilities to the environment and to the local community. We integrate social and environmental considerations into our business activities and by doing so we hope to have a positive impact on our people and the people we work with.
We hosted our first Charity Karting Event on September 21st - click here to view the photos
We achieve the above in the following ways:
Our charity work and environmental considerations into our business activities are overseen by our CSR Committee. The committee consists of a variety of our employees who are voted in each year. We encourage all of our staff to apply for the CSR Committee positions and be a part of our efforts to help the environment and our local community.
Charity Work and Who We Support
Our 2017/2018 Charity of the Year is Macmillan.
Macmillan’s ambition is to reach and improve the lives of every person living with cancer and to inspire millions of others to do the same. It is a fantastic charity and one we are very proud to be associated with.
Our aim is to raise as much money as possible in support of what Macmillan do. At the end of our financial year, St James’ Square match the monies raised by our staff.
Paul Monaghan, Managing Partner of St James' Law Firm explains why Macmillan is such a worthy charity to support;
"My Auntie, Rita Monaghan, died from cancer when she was only 30 years old and whilst it was a long time ago now my family will never forget the care she received from the Macmillan nurses, especially towards the end of her life. "
"The work that Macmillan do is nothing short of amazing. They help so many people and their families as they deal with all of the cruelty that cancer can bring. We will always be grateful to Macmillan for everything they did for my Auntie."
"All monies raised by St James' Square staff and clients will be doubled by the firm and I will be very proud at the end of 2018 when we are able to give Macmillan £10,000 as I know it will help so many families like mine."
If you would like to make a donation you can do so in person at our offices or via our Just Giving page
Our Community and Volunteering
We encourage our employees to be involved in voluntary roles within charities and community projects. Some of our lawyers also provide advice to charitable organisations on a pro bono basis. It is our hope that by doing this we can support local businesses and charities for the benefit of the wider community.
We sponsor a number of businesses, clubs and community projects.
We are proud sponsors of Whitley Bay Sporting Club Under 14s. We believe in supporting grassroots sports in the community.
We are also proud sponsor of the Master Photographers Association.
Established in 1952, the Master Photographers Association (MPA) are one of the longest standing photographic associations in British history. They are the qualification body exclusively for the professional wedding, portrait and commercial photographer.
With the help of St James’ Square, the MPA has recently formed a North East branch designed to encourage professional photographers of all levels to join the Association. We are extremely proud to be associated with such a successful business.
Doing our bit for the environment
We aim to reduce the impact we have on the environment. We recycle items used by the firm including paper, toner cartridges, glass bottles, cans and plastic.
